🌴 How Did Magnetic Island Get Its Name? 🏝️

Did you know that Magnetic Island was named by Captain James Cook back in 1770? While sailing past, Cook’s compass went haywire, and he believed the island had a magnetic force. ⚓️ Though no magnetic interference was ever found, the name stuck! 😄

But there’s more... To the Wulgurukaba people, the Traditional Owners, this beautiful island is known as Yunbenun. 🌿 They’ve had a deep cultural connection to this land for thousands of years, with rich stories about the island’s landscape, wildlife, and sacred places.

So next time you’re exploring this island paradise, remember both the ancient traditions and the curious story of its name! 🙌
